Dr. Sunday Joseph Aigbodion is a highly trained, multifaceted medical professional. His distinguished career of over 22 years traverses various fields of medical practice. He has his share of deep experience in intervention medicine, emergency care, focused radio-imaging technique, and surgical care of the eyes.
Dr. Aigbodion obtained his West African Secondary School certificate in 1988. He then pursued a medical degree at the prestigious Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, graduating in 2002. Following graduation, he completed his statutory one-year internship program at Irrua Specialist Teaching Hospital, Irrua, Edo State, in 2003. His passion for healthcare led him to collaborate with non-governmental and government organizations. To further enhance his expertise, Dr. Aigbodion obtained a postgraduate diploma in Ophthalmology from the West African College of Surgeons (WACS) in 2008, earning him recognition as a registered eye surgeon in Nigeria.
Driven by a passion for improvement, he emigrated to South Africa, where he is currently based as an emergency medical professional in private practice. He has between 2009 – 2022, earned certifications and degrees in General Practice, Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety, Addiction & Clinical Toxicology and an M.Sc. in Emergency Medicine, inter alia, from the well-acclaimed University of Pretoria, Hartfield, Oxbridge Academy, Cape Town and the University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, all in South Africa.
He is the founder/Chief Executive Director of Comfort Medical Emergency Hospital, based in Alimosho, Lagos. This hospital is a project borne out of the intense desire to provide affordable multi-specialty health care and reduction in preventable deaths.
Dr Aigbodion is a certified medical expert with the American College of Independent Medical Examiners. He holds various awards in point-of-care ultrasound in diagnostics medical practice. Currently, he coordinates the train the trainer course in point of care ultrasonography (POCUS) for healthcare professionals in Nigeria and South Africa.
He has several publications to his name with the International Medical Journal and more than 689 citations by other authors in academia.
He ardently advocates for appropriate clinical practice and health-seeking behaviour at all levels.
It was in recognition of his contribution to national development in the area of Human Medicine (Emergency Care) in Nigeria that Dr. Sunday Joseph Aigbodion was deemed worthy to be conferred with the Nigerian Achievement Award.
