The Nigeria Customs Service Zone C headquarters marked International Customs Day with a renewed commitment to efficiency, security, and prosperity in trade facilitation. The celebration, held in Port Harcourt, emphasized the evolving role of customs administration in global trade.

Assistant Comptroller General of Customs (ACG) SK Dangaladima, the Zonal Coordinator, highlighted how customs operations have transformed beyond traditional border management to creating seamless trade pathways and ensuring economic growth. “Customs is no longer merely about managing borders; but also about creating seamless pathways for trade, fostering security in a rapidly evolving world, and paving the way for economic prosperity for all,” he stated.

Looking ahead to 2025’s challenges, Dangaladima outlined plans to embrace digital transformation through blockchain, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics to enhance trade efficiency. The Zone plans to implement Advanced risk management systems to proactively address security concerns while maintaining smooth trade operations.

The Zonal Coordinator emphasized the importance of international collaboration in modern customs operations, particularly in addressing challenges such as cybercrime, terrorism, and environmental degradation. He stressed that prosperity in trade must be balanced with sustainability, highlighting the customs service’s role in promoting green trade practices and environmental stewardship.

“As we move through 2025 and beyond, our commitment to efficiency, security, and prosperity is more than a mission statement—it is a promise to the people we serve,” Dangaladima concluded, underscoring the service’s dedication to facilitating trade while ensuring national security.

The celebration aligns with CGC Bashir Adewale Adeniyi’s vision for the Nigeria Customs Service and reflects the global customs community’s commitment to modernizing trade facilitation while maintaining border security.
