President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the killing of soldiers from the 29 Task Force Brigade under Operation HADIN KAI, following a coordinated terrorist attack on their camp in Benisheikh, Borno State.

The Defence Headquarters confirmed that the attack occurred in the early hours of Thursday, April 9, 2026, resulting in multiple fatalities among the troops.

In a statement, the President extended his condolences to the Nigerian military and the bereaved families, urging them to remain strong despite the painful loss. He praised the fallen soldiers for their courage and sacrifice, noting that they fought bravely to repel the attackers and protect surrounding communities from being overrun by insurgents.

President Tinubu described the assault as a desperate counterattack by insurgents amid ongoing military offensives that have reportedly neutralised several fighters and commanders. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to defeating terrorism and restoring lasting peace across the country.

The President also called on the Armed Forces not to be discouraged by the incident, urging frontline troops to remain steadfast in their duty. He assured them of continued government support, including the provision of necessary equipment and improved welfare for personnel risking their lives to safeguard the nation.

He further appealed to Nigerians and the media to support the military’s efforts against insurgency and banditry, warning against any actions that might undermine the morale of troops.

Tinubu also extended his condolences to the government and people of Borno State, reiterating that the Federal Government would continue to collaborate with state authorities to secure total victory over insurgency and ensure enduring peace.
