President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and security agencies to ensure a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in Osun State on Saturday.

Fifteen candidates are contesting the August 15 election, including incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke, APC candidate Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji and African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam.

Tinubu also urged Osun residents to participate in the election peacefully and avoid actions capable of disrupting the process, assuring voters of adequate security before, during and after the poll.

The President tasked INEC with ensuring the integrity of the election, describing it as an opportunity for the commission to demonstrate its preparedness for the 2027 general elections.

He also directed the Inspector-General of Police and other security chiefs deployed for the election to provide maximum protection for voters and electoral officials and prevent troublemakers from disrupting the process.

“Voters should feel confident to go out in their numbers to vote for the candidate of their choice,” Tinubu said, stressing that the outcome of the election must reflect the will of the people.
