The Federal Government has announced a 30-day discount on petrol sold at NNPC stations, with public transport operators to receive priority.
Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Taiwo Oyedele, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja, stressing that the measure was a discount and not a return to fuel subsidy.
He said the government was also negotiating a N1,350 per litre ceiling on petrol’s ex-gantry cost to curb price fluctuations, with the ceiling to be reviewed monthly.
Oyedele said the government had granted petrol tax and duty waivers worth over N3.3tn as of September 30, 2026, while other measures include increased cash transfers, subsidised credit and accelerated deployment of compressed natural gas vehicles.
He said the measures were targeted at cushioning consumers without restoring a blanket subsidy.
