Mrs. Elizabeth Olasunkanmi Balogun is an exceptional woman. She is a thorough-bred professional. A radiographer per excellence, she has contributed a lot to the growth and development of medical diagnostic services in Nigeria.
Elizabeth is the current Chief Radiographer at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos. She is also the President of the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria. She is the African Regional Coordinator of the International Society for Radiographers and Radiological Technologists.
Born on May 5, 1972, Elizabeth had a diploma from the Institute of Radiography in 1997. In 2002, she bagged a Postgraduate Diploma in Computed Tomography. She went on to earn another Postgraduate Diploma in Ultrasonography in 2004. She had the Postgraduate Diploma in Magnetic Resonance Imaging in 2009.
Not done with a bag full of professional qualifications, she went on to study for a university degree and in 2012, she graduated with a B.Sc in Radiography. The following year, 2013, she secured an M.Sc in Medical Imaging. She is currently working on a DXA certification.
Mrs. Balogun has worked at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi since 1999. Between 2003 and 2012, she was Locum Radiographer and Specialist in ECG/Audiogram at Shell Medical in Lagos.
Between 2002 and 2006, she was a part-time lecturer at the Federal School of Radiography, Yaba, Lagos. She is currently a visiting lecturer at Bayero University, Kano. She has been a clinical instructor to student and intern radiographers on posting to the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi since 2004.
Mrs. Elizabeth Balogun is a member of many professional associations including the Association of Radiographers of Nigeria where she once served as National Secretary and is now the President. She is also a member of the Radiographers Registration Board of Nigeria and, as mentioned earlier, Regional Coordinator of the International Society of Radiographers and Radiological Technologists (ISRRT). She is a member of the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), United Kingdom.
She has attended many professional conferences and workshops which have taken her to places as far as the UK, Canada, Finland and South Korea.
This outstanding woman has won recognition from many quarters. For an instance, she won the Award for Good Comportment among the 1997 Graduating Set of the Federal School of Radiography.
She was honoured with an Award for Budget Efficiency as a member of the University of Leeds Student Union Executive (2012 – 2013).
Elizabeth loves swimming, music, travelling and meeting people as pastimes.
It is in recognition of her contribution to national development in the field of Medical Diagnostic Services (Radiography) that Mrs. Elizabeth Olasunkanmi Balogun is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Woman of Merit Gold Award which is part of the 2017 PSR National Awards.
