This morning, the Niger Delta Avengers claimed it blew up an NNPC pipeline in Oruk Anam Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. NDA said on Twitter that it happened at 4:00 am.
However, Akwa Ibom State Commissioner of Police, Murtala Mani has promptly described the claim as a lie. He told newsmen today that the leak from the pipeline was a result of a technical fault and that engineers from Port Harcourt were already working to fix it.
The Commissioner of Police also declared that Akwa Ibom State was free from the activities of militants such as the Niger Delta Avengers.
Reports about the true ownership of the pipelines at Ikot Osutek in Oruk Anam also tend to put a lie to the claim by NDA who said they belonged to the NNPC. The pipelines, reports say, belong to Seven Energy Company which operates the Ibom Gas Power Plant at Uquo in Esit Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.
