The Nigerian Senate says there are lots of other Nigerians, apart from the Chibok girls, who are in Boko Haram’s captivity and are in need of rescue. It has therefore called on all those who participated in the negotiations that saw to the release of 21 of the Chibok girls last week, to ensure that other Nigerians in similar situations were released.
Senator Ali Ndume who represents Borno South had earlier drawn the attention of the Upper House to the fact that not less than 1000 other girls, apart from the Chibok girls, were in Boko Haram’s captivity. Ndume said although he did not know the exact number, he could place a bet on an estimate of not less than 1000.
According to the Senator, some of these girls have gone missing while many have gone unnoticed. “Some of them, only God knows where they are and in what condition they have found themselves,” he said.
Even so, the Senate was unanimous in expressing appreciation for the efforts of people and various bodies who were part of the negotiations that led to the release of the 21 girls.
