Veteran Italian football team captain and Juventus safe hands, Gianluigi Buffon has revealed that he would love to avoid meeting Leicester city in the quarter final round of the UEFA Champions League (UCL).
He made the revelation while addressing newsmen shortly after his side’s 1-0 win over Portuguese outfit, FC Porto, in the second of their round of 16 tie.
“The only team I’d like to avoid in the draw is Leicester. They have got enthusiasm. They know how to hurt the strongest teams. We’d have everything to lose against them,” Buffon said.
Leicester city’s fairytale run in the UCL continued after they completed a 3-2 comeback against Spanish side, Sevilla.
The foxes were unbeaten in their last three matches including 3-1 wins over Liverpool and Hull city, a feat achieved by the improved form of their striker, Jamie Vardy and the attacking threats of Algerian and African footballer of the year, Riyad Maghrez. Most importantly, there were the unnoticed heroics of shot-stopper, Kasper Schmeichel, who saved two penalties against Sevilla over the two legs.
Although European football power houses like Bayern Munich, Barcelona and Real Madrid are Juve’s potential quarter final opponents, the element of surprise that Leicester brings, especially with their new found form under new Manager, Craig Shakespeare can usher in the unthinkable.
