A former Managing Director of Daily Times Nigeria Plc, Dr Onukaba Adinoyi-Ojo, has been reportedly killed while trying to escape from an armed robbery scene.
The news of his death was confirmed by one of his relations, Mr. Yusuf Itopi who was travelling with him when the incident happened, to newsmen in Lokoja on Monday.
According to Itopi, Mr. Adinoyi-Ojo was on his way back to Abuja from Abeokuta where he had attended the inauguration of Obasanjo’s Presidential Library.
He further revealed that the veteran journalist turned politician, was knocked down and killed by an oncoming vehicle while running into a nearby bush to escape an armed robbery attack at a village near Akure.
The late Onukaba was Senior Special Assistant Media to former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar and a very close ally of former President, Olusegun Obasanjo.
Born March 9, 1960 in Oboroke-Ihima in Okehi LGA of Kogi State, Onubaka was a 1982 Theatre Arts graduate of the University of Ibadan who worked in numerous media establishments. The peak of his media career was obviously when he was appointed the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Daily Times Nigeria Plc in August, 1999.
Onukaba, had on various occasions, shown interest in being at the helm of affairs in Kogi State but has never made it beyond the primaries, probably because he does not have the required funds to finance the rigorous campaigns.
He had successfully written auto-biographies for Atiku Abubakar, Olusegun Obasanjo and authored “Born to Run,” a biography of Dele Giwa, alongside Pulitzer Prize winner, Dele Olojede.
Onukaba, whose corpse has been deposited at a mortuary in Akure from where it would be conveyed to his hometown Ihima, Okehi Local Government Area of Kogi State for burial, is survived by his wife and three children.
