The Kaduna State Government has risen up to condemn those sharing videos and inciting materials with the aim of getting citizens of the state to launch reprisal attacks in reaction to ethnic violence in other parts of the country.

The inciting materials have been widely circulated by mischief makers in the city of Kaduna since the beginning of the week. Now the state government says it will not watch “enemies of peace” take advantage of developments in other parts of Nigeria to incite people to violence. It has vowed to deal with those circulating the materials.

A statement released after the meeting of the State Security Council on Monday by the spokesman to the governor, Mr Samuel Aruwan said: “Residents of Kaduna have been urged to do their best to uphold peace in the state. Citizens should remain calm and reject any attempt to drag them into violent events happening elsewhere in the country.

“The State Security Council specifically warns those trying to incite unnecessary tension because of events elsewhere in the country. Such persons should desist from circulating videos and images with provocative commentaries and calls to citizens for reprisal attack.

“Already, the unfortunate incidents in those parts of the country have been taken care of, so the government would not watch enemies of peace manipulating the situation to cause problems in Kaduna.”
