Buhari-back-in-Nigeria

 

President Muhammadu Buhari returned to Nigeria on Friday morning from his extended medical vacation to the United Kingdom.

He arrived the Kaduna International Airport at about 7:45am in the Presidential jet, Airforce 001, and was received by the Deputy Governor of Kaduna state, Barnabas Yusuf Bala, service chiefs and other dignitaries.

From Kaduna, he was choppered in an NAF541 aircraft that landed at the Presidential Villa, Abuja at exactly 8:42am. He was received by Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo and members of his family including his wife, Aisha and daughter, Zahra.

Shortly after his arrival, Buhari met with the Vice president, some governors, ministers, service chiefs and top government officials at the First Lady’s Conference Room of the State House.

At the meeting, he thanked all Nigerians for their consistent prayers towards his recovery, adding that their faith in his government, despite the hardships, had energized him to serve them more. He said:

“I am deeply grateful to all Nigerians–Muslims and Christians alike who have prayed and are continuing to pray for my good health. This is a testimony that inspite of the hardship being experienced, Nigerians support the government and its effort to tackle our country’s challenges.

“The best way for me to repay you is to re-dedicate myself to serving you, protecting your interests and keeping your trust. I thank you very much.”

While assuming Nigerians that he was feeling much better, he said he may need to embark on a follow-up on his health in the weeks to come. He asked the Acting President to continue to act on his behalf while he gets more rest through the weekend.

After the meeting, he retired to his residence. He is expected to formally resume duty on Monday.
