The Nigerian Army has said that the original Abubakar Shekau, leader of the dreaded terrorist group, Boko Haram, is very much alive. This runs contrary to the belief in some quarters, including sections of the military, that he has been killed.
This revelation was made by the new Director of Defence Information, Maj-Gen John Enenche in Abuja on Thursday at the monthly media parley with defence correspondents.
Enenche said that military was yet to get hold of the sect leader who, according to him, had severally misled the army using fictitious faces.
“But we are aware, and have come to know that the real Shekau is yet to be apprehended. If you remember, when Osama bin Laden was killed, they went further to do a DNA test,” he said.
“It is because there are so many faces of Shekau that brought the mix up, but the real Shekau is yet to be caught, and we will get him, he added.
