Property worth millions of naira have been reportedly lost to fire which gutted the accounts section of the Ebonyi State Government House on Friday. No life was however lost in the inferno which started around 9.00 a.m. disrupting normal official activities.
According to the Senior Special Assistant to Governor David Umahi on Internal Security, Dr Kenneth Ugbala who addressed newsmen, it took the combined efforts of the Government House workers and the State Fire Service to put the fire out.
He blamed the fire outbreak on faulty electrical connections but added that the damage done to the accounts section was minimal.
“Some furniture and curtains within the section were completely burnt and we would ascertain the true extent of damage when the fire service concludes its tasks,” Ugbala said.
The State Chief Fire Officer, Mr. James Owoh, confirmed the incident, saying his officer responded promptly to the distress call from the government to put the situation under control.
