Anthony Joshua

British boxer, Anthony Joshua is to pocket the sum of £15 million (N8.2 billion) for beating Ukraine’s Wladimir Klitschko over the weekend to become the undisputed  heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

The heavyweight clash at the 90,000 capacity Wembley stadium, generated huge interests which reached 1.5 million sales on pay-per-view, eclipsing the previous record of 1.15 million when Floyd Mayweather fought Manny Pacquiao in 2015.

According to reports, United State’s television rights sold for almost £2.4 million with Showtime and HBO sharing the rights, as more than £1 million was pumped in by sponsors while merchandising also broke the  £1 million barrier to deliver a total well in excess of  £40 million.

Meanwhile, the 27-year-old Joshua, who stopped Klitschko in the eleventh round via a technical knock out to snatch the WBA title, has attributed the secret of his success to eating pounded yam and egusi soup which is a staple food in his country of origin, Nigeria.
