Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike has said the people of Rivers State will never abandon former President, Dr Goodluck Jonathan.
Wike spoke today during the commissioning of the Second Nkpogu Bridge in Port Harcourt which was built by his government. Significantly, Dr Goodluck Jonathan was specially invited to do the commissioning.
The Governor, in his address told everyone who cared to listen that Jonathan was chosen to commission the bridge in order to send a clear message to Nigerians that he will not be abandoned. Said Wike: “We are not politicians that when anything is wrong, they sing different song. Rivers State is a different place. When we believe in you, we believe in you. We are different from other Niger Delta states. We can say it with all authority.
“We cannot come out in the public to begin to castigate our own. Those of them who do that should have a rethink. For us, it doesn’t matter the blackmail against Jonathan. We will continue to back him.
“Those who think that they have promises from those who think they own Nigeria should be careful. They will use you and dump you at the appropriate time.”
Former President Jonathan on his part, expressed gratitude to the Rivers people for the support they gave him during his tenure as President. Noting that Wike has performed wonderfully well, he said: “I have no regrets that Wike is the governor of Rivers State. I am happy that the Governor has opened up Rivers state through infrastructural projects.”
Jonathan noted that Wike’s achievements go beyond partisan sentiments and that even the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo had commended him for his accomplishments.
“Wike has shown so much commitment to infrastructural development. The whole of Rivers State is now a construction yard,” Jonathan concluded.
