The Metropolitan Police in London has made 18 arrests in connection with Saturday’s terror attack that left seven people dead and 48 others injured.

According to a police statement, officers from the Met Terrorism Command on Sunday morning arrested 18 people in Barking, East London, in connection with Saturday’s attacks on London Bridge and the Borough Market Area. The statement revealed that searches of a number of addresses in Barking are continuing.

Meanwhile, the Islamic State (ISIL) has claimed responsibility for the attack. In a statement posted on its Amaq news agency, the terrorist group said:

“A detachment of Islamic fighters executed yesterday’s attacks in London.”

ISIL had last week sent out a call on messaging service, Telegram, urging its followers to carry out attacks with trucks, knives and guns against “crusaders” during the holy month of Ramadan.
