The Nigeria Labour Congress has said that the nation’s organized labour will vote out any “unfriendly governor” who has failed to pay workers’ salaries during the 2019 general elections.
NLC President, Comrade Ayuba Wabba stated this during a familiarisation visit to the headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE). He said:
“Every worker in Nigeria must ensure that he/she obtains the Permanent Voters’ Card (PVC) in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration exercise.
“We must prepare to vote out governors or any political office holder who is refusing to pay us salary. We must continue to lament, we have the power, so we must use it this time. Workers, pensioners, and their households who are, in one way or the other suffering the inhuman treatment of non-payment of workers’ wages must be voted out of office in the next election.”
He urged all members of the labour movement to be united irrespective of their inclinations in order to ensure that their welfare is guaranteed, adding that capacity building and inclusiveness were important if the NLC was to surmount its numerous challenges.
