Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson has said that the newly-established University of Africa (UNIAFRICA) located at Toru-Orua in Sagbama Local Government Area of the state would soon be a reality as the institution is scheduled to commence undergraduate programmes in September.

While speaking with journalists during an unscheduled inspection visit to the permanent site of the University, Governor Dickson expressed satisfaction with the quality of construction work currently being carried out on the site.

The Governor who was accompanied on the visit by former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Alhaji Muktar Shagari, said the state’s dream was to provide a world-class university that would absorb students from the newly-inaugurated model secondary schools in the state.

He expressed his profound appreciation to the host communities and people of the state for their co-operation and support, adding that the new university’s School of Foundation Studies which has taken off in Bulou-Orua community with over 500 students was doing well.

Earlier this year, the Acting Registrar of the university, Bennanaiah Oye revealed that the institution, which had received applications from over 6,000 intending students from across the federation, had been approved by the Nigerian Universities Commission (NUC) as the 43rd state university in the country and 143rd in the Nigerian university system.
