The Awujale of Ijebuland in Ogun State, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona has expressed surprise and worry over the spread of rumours of his death by some bloggers and websites in and outside Nigeria.
The 83-year-old monarch was on Monday reported to have joined his ancestors, but he has come out to debunk the rumours of his purported death.
In a telephone conversation with the News Agency of Nigeria, the Awujale who is spending his 57th year on the throne said he has been lodging at Oriental Hotel in Victoria Island, Lagos after undergoing a routine medical check up at a Lagos hospital.
He expressed displeasure that some individuals and websites would be spreading rumours about his death without first confirming from the palace in Ijebu Ode or from his chiefs.
“Why are people spreading rumours about my death, when I am right here at Oriental?,” the monarch was quoted as asking
He however enjoined journalists, media houses and websites to authenticate the sources and veracity of their information before publishing.
