The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has withdrawn recognition of the faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark, citing unresolved leadership disputes within the party.
The electoral body said it would no longer accept correspondence from the Mark-led faction or a rival group headed by Nafiu Bala. INEC also stated that it would not monitor any meetings, congresses, or conventions organised by either faction pending the resolution of the crisis.
The commission explained that its decision aligns with a recent court directive ordering all parties involved to maintain the status quo until the matter is fully determined.
As part of the move, INEC confirmed it would remove the names of the David Mark-led National Working Committee from its official records, effectively suspending formal recognition of the group.
The leadership crisis within the ADC began in 2025 following internal disagreements that led to the emergence of parallel factions. The dispute has since been the subject of legal battles, creating uncertainty within the party.
