A source has reportedly told Nigeria’s Thisday newspaper that President Muhammadu Buhari who has been receiving medical attention in London for close to three months is fully recovered but is staying back to regain full physical strength and weight before he returns to Nigeria.
The source, whom the newspaper said was one of the governors who visited the president last week said Buhari’s decision to remain in London was to avoid a repeat of what happened in March when he returned from a medical vacation from the United Kingdom but could not appear at public functions.
“The truth is that the president is in a very fit state of mind. His sense of humour is back and the rate of recollection is encouraging with a very keen presence of mind. But I think the reason he has been asked to stay behind is to observe sufficient rest to be able to regain some more physical strength, away from his present gaunt look,” the source was quoted as saying.
“You know, the problem is that the last time he was home, he barely attended public functions including the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meetings as well as the Friday Jum’at service which he had been attending before he stopped showing up. That created a lot of controversy as members of the public were genuinely worried,” he added.
He further revealed that although the president is still very lean, his sharp and smart nature may not allow him to stay in his house and away from public glare if he should return.
He also hinted that Nigerians should expect Acting President Yemi Osinbajo to begin to carry out some more serious assignments in the days ahead, adding that such actions will bring to an end, insinuations and rumours about who is piloting the affairs of the country.
