A former Minister of Labour and Productivity in Nigeria, Hussaini Akwanga who was abducted by gunmen in Nasarawa State has been released.
The Nasarawa State Police Command said that Lafia, Akwanga who served briefly as minister under the Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration but was removed in December 2003 following an alleged N214 million national identity card scam, was kidnapped at his farm on Wamba Road in Akwanga on Tuesday.
The spokesman for the command, Kennedy Idirisu who confirmed the abduction on Wednesday, said a crack team led by the Deputy Commissioner in charge of operations had been mobilized by the State’s Commissioner of Police, Abubakar Sadiq-Bello to search for the abducted former minister.
Speaking about his release on Thursday, Idrisu confirmed that, “although he was a little traumatised, he is hale and hearty and has been reunited with his family.”
