Nigeria’s immediate past Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has debunked reports on some social media sites that she made utterances against the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
Okonjo-Iweala, who made the denial in a post on her official facebook page, said the reports were totally false and that this was not the first time she was debunking such malicious reports.
“I had earlier debunked the same fake news on Jan 5, 2017, but it is obviously in some peoples’ interest to see this falsehood circulate again,” the post read.
The ex-minister had on June 5 posted a disclaimer which was signed by her Media Adviser, Mr. Paul Nwabukwu on her facebook wall.
“The comments on the performance of the Nigerian economy being circulated by unknown persons and attributed to Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala were not made by her. Like the previous fake audio by an imposter pretending to be her, this is another desperate action by mischievous persons,” Nwabukwu had said.
The Media Adviser further affirmed that the former minister did not need anybody to speak on her behalf because she was very capable of speaking for herself, urging the media and Nigerians to discard such reports as they were petty gimmicks.
