Incumbent Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano has been elected as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the November 18 gubernatorial elections in the state.
At a special congress/primary election held in Awka on Tuesday, delegates unanimously elected Obiano to contest for a second term in office.
Announcing Obiano’s victory, the Returning Officer at the election, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi disclosed that Obiano polled a total of 1,070 ‘yes’ votes to emerge victorious.
“The total accredited delegates for the election was 1,092 consisting of statutory and ad hoc delegates. ‘Yes’ votes were 1,070, while those who said ‘no’ were 11. There were 11 invalid votes while five persons did not cast their votes. With this, Chief Willie Obiano stands elected as the candidate of our party,” Shinkafi said.
In his post-election reaction, Obiano expressed his gratitude and appreciation to the delegates for electing him to go run for another term and pledged to work harder for the success of the state and the party.
