Nigeria’s Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo who headed the investigative panel that probed the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke has said that the fate of the indicted persons will be decided by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Speaking with newsman shortly after submitting the report to President Buhari, Osinbajo said the panel, which also had Abubakar Malami, the nation’s Minister of Justice and Babagana Munguno, the National Security Adviser (NSA) as members were fair in their investigations whose details would have to be studied by the president before a final decision is taken based on their recommendations.
“Well as you can imagine we are always fair minded and the whole approach is to ensure that justice is done in all cases. It is in the interest of the government and in the interest of the nation that things are done properly and that there is due process and that we are not unfair. You can be sure that we will do the right thing,” Osinbajo said.
He said that the fact-finding committee whose terms of reference was to investigate the allegations based on the available facts gotten from interviews of witnesses of what transpired in the cases involving the SGF and DG of NIA, adding that:
“We have now concluded and we submitted a full report with recommendations to the President. We cannot of course give you any kind of details because the President has to look at the report, study it and then make his own final decision based on that report. This is a document which has just been submitted to the President”.
He urged all Nigerians to be patient if they want to know the full details of the report after President must have taken a final decision based on the facts and recommendations contained in the report.
