A major drama was averted on Tuesday in the Sokoto House of Assembly following the impeachment of the Deputy Leader of the House, Alhaji Kabiru Ibrahim.
A scuffle ensued soon after the Speaker, Salihu Maidaji announced the impeachment as opposing members engaged themselves in a free-for-all fight during which one of the members was reportedly injured before the intervention of security operatives.
His impeachment followed a vote of no confidence signed by 21 out of the 30 members of the House. Two members abstained while seven others were opposed to the removal of Hon. Ibrahim who represents Kwase Constituency under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Maidaji had announced that he received a letter of vote of no confidence on the Deputy House Leader duly signed by 21 members of the 30-member Assembly and consequently announced Alhaji Ibrahim Sarki (APC –Sokoto North II) as his immediate replacement.
The House Leader, Hon. Garba Bello (APC –Yabo) while speaking to journalists after the fracas, alleged that Ibrahim had breached the standing orders of the House by engaging in political activities ahead of the 2019 elections.
