It was like a tale of the unexpected yesterday, Sunday, when a vehicular accident on a busy street named Great Challenge Road in the Iba area of Lagos claimed the lives of three persons.
Two of the victims who were passengers on a commercial tricycle locally called “Keke Marwa”, died on the spot of the crash while an elderly woman, also a passenger, died later at a nearby hospital.
The accident which happened in the afternoon, involved a brownish grey Toyota Corolla car which collided with the “Keke Marwa.”
Eye witnesses told our reporter that the Toyota car which was on speed and heading towards the direction of Isashi, lost control and rammed onto tricycle which was filled with passengers and was coming from the opposite direction.
Such was the impact of the collision that the tricycle was almost completely leveled. Only the base of the vehicle was left. Yet another tricycle which was running behind the one which collided with the car crashed into the accident.
The Toyota car itself was seriously damaged with its bonnet and part of the engine squeezed in. However, the driver could not be apprehended as he was said to have taken to his heels on seeing what had happened. People & Power could not confirm at press time if the driver had been seen.
The accident caused a total traffic hold-up on the road for several hours. The police and the general public had a busy time trying to restore a semblance of normalcy to the scene.
The men of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, arrived the scene at about 4:40 pm. However, given the long journey they had to make from Alausa in Ikeja, their arrival at the scene looked quite late.
