The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind the Nigerian Army over its ongoing action against members and supporters of the Independent People of Biafra (IPOB) in Abia state.
In a statement released by Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, its National Publicity Secretary on Thursday in Abuja, the party urged all Nigerians to be cautious of their utterances as regards the recent clashes between soldiers and members of IPOB.
While regretting the recent invasion of the National Union of Journalists (NUJ) Secretariat in Umuahia, the Abia State capital, the party also called for calm and restraint as,according to him, security agents would henceforth adhere to the globally – agreed rules of engagement.
“We must not yield to elements beating the drumbeat of war. So we owe the peace and unity of our dear country to the present and unborn generations. We must speak and stand up for peaceful co-existence on our social media platforms, places of worship and all other public spaces we belong,” the statement said.
The party said that although the continued unity of Nigeria is a collective interest, those agitating must do so in peace and within the ambits of the law as anything contrary to that has the potential to undermine the existence of the country.
