The outgoing Chairman of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), Ekpo Nta has handed over the leadership of the agency to Mr Abdullahi Bako.
Bako, a board member will be the Acting Chairman pending the assumption of duty by the Chairman-designate who is yet to be confirmed by the Senate.
At the handing-over ceremony, the Nsit Ubium, Akwa Ibom State-born Nta who was at the helm of affairs of the commission for six years, said he came into the commission when it had a crisis of identity as whether it was a civil service organisation or a law enforcement agency.
He stated that despite his dampened enthusiasm at the commission when he initially assumed office, he was able to pick up the challenge which resulted in so many achievements including the high rate of investigations and prosecution of corruption cases as well as the introduction of measures to check corruption in ministries, departments and agencies (MDAs).
He commended the management committee of the agency for the cordial working relationship they provided him and urged them to continue to work hard towards achieving the commission’s ultimate mandate.
Responding, the Acting Chairman acknowledged Mr. Nta’s effort at positively projecting the image of the commission and pleaded for the support and cooperation of the management for the period he would serve as Acting Chairman.
