A former governor of Ogun State and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Otunba Gbenga Daniels has said that the opposition party began to lose elections when it usurped power from the people.
While addressing a conference of former speakers of the party on his intention to contest the national clhairmanship of the party, Daniel said the party lost the 2015 elections when it deviated from its original vision which was power to the people, became complacent and took the people who voted it in for granted.
“After the last election, we become over confident and took the people for granted. Power was removed from the people. Leaders were disconnected from followers. Candidates were imposed on the people,” Daniel said.
“It was when PDP took away power from the people that the party started losing. Party reorganization is a sine-qua-non for election victory. The world is waiting for us. Put your acts together, put your house together. We have been labelled as being corrupt but the truth is that corruption in Nigeria is not partisan”, he added.
He further stressed that if the party is able to reorganize its house, it has the best chance of taking over the presidency which according to him was what Nigerians and the world at large were patiently waiting for.
He urged all members of the party to come out of their psychological suppression by the last electoral loss and realign themselves in unity to form a formidable platform that will unseat the APC in 2019.
