Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode has expressed optimism that the state will produce its first elected female Governor in no distant time.
Ambode stated this while receiving the One-Day Governor of the state, Miss Zuffon Bukola, her deputy, Miss Rosemary Ogidan and members of her cabinet at the Exco Chambers of the Lagos House in Ikeja.
Miss Zuffon, a 16-year-old Senior Secondary student of Awodiora Senior Secondary School, Ajegunle emerged the One-Day Governor of the state after winning the keenly-contested Spelling Bee Competition beating Ogidan, also an SS 2 student of Methodist Senior High School, Badagry to the second position.
“This is a significant day for Lagos State and it also signals what the future actually holds for Lagos State in which, we have seated here, two female, strong members of the new State Executive Council and we have a female Governor and a female Deputy Governor.
“It is also telling us a story about what the future of Lagos is all about that one day we will find seated here, not just a one-day governor, but for a period or tenure of four years. There will be a female governor in the state.” Ambode said.
Recalling the exploits of past one-day governors and their cabinet members who are currently excelling in their various endeavours, the Governor awarded full scholarships to the One-Day Governor and her deputy and announced a cash donation of N1 million to each of them.
