No fewer than 1,500 members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) have decamped to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers state.
The defectors who were led by Ndamati Amadi, the Chairman of the Rivers State chapter of the Road Transport Employers Association of Nigeria (RTEAN) said the good works and administrative abilities of Governor Nyesom Wike prompted their defection to the party.
Receiving the defectors, the spokesman of the PDP in the state, Samuel Nwanosike assured them of equal treatment with old members in the party, adding that the party remained the only platform that could guarantee the recognition and attention they deserve.
He said: “The APC has not been able to deliver on its campaign promises to Nigerians so these brothers said they cannot remain in a place with so much lies so they have come to the PDP. You are welcome.”
Nwanosike further called on the APC government to leave the Nigerian Army alone to do its job of providing security and protecting lives as according to him, it is an institution that should not be politicized.
