The apex Igbo socio – cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has said that the realization of a South- East presidency in 2023 was non-negotiable as it would end the various agitations in the region.
The President of the group in the 19 northern states, Chief Augustine Amaechi stated this in Minna, Niger State on Sunday after a one – day meeting of the group, alleging high level injustice, marginalization, neglect and lack of fair play against the south east.
He argued that the agitations by the proscribed Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB) and Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) were borne out of injustice and continued neglect of the region.
“Virtually every Nigerian agrees that there is injustice in the country, especially against the South East. But what every Nigerian has not agreed is what to do to address the injustice.
“Some have called for restructuring, some for devolution of power, all these still boil down to restructuring and the reason for this is that one region has not been recognized as belonging to Nigeria,” Amaechi said.
He pointed out that what Ndigbo were seeking for was an equitable distribution of power in Nigeria, adding: “Nigerians should support Igbo presidency in 2023 as the only way to douse growing tension in the South East.”
