Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Ibe Kachikwu this Friday afternoon met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The meeting came after a letter written by the minister to the president alleging impunity and lack of due process in the running of the affairs of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC by the Group Managing Director, Mr Maikanti Baru, was leaked in the press. The letter alleged that Baru had unilaterally and without the consent of the NNPC Board as stipulated by law, awarded contracts to the tune of $25 billion.
Since the story of the scandal broke, the Nigerian polity has been stirred by criticisms of the Federal Government particularly in the light of the anti-corruption war being waged by the Buhari administration.
After the meeting between Kachikwu and Buhari, State House correspondents jostled to get the minister to reveal what transpired between him and the president. However, if Nigerians expected the minister to comment, they could not have been more disappointed.
Kachikwu’s cut reply to the correspondents was: “No Comments”.
