Mr. Dele Ogundele, a worker with the Eko Electricity Distribution Company has been hospitalized after he was brutalized by a Police Sergeant attached to a residence owned by a former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar.
According to reports, the sergeant, Attah Amikoko allegedly dragged down Ogundele from an electric pole opposite the former IG’s residence and mercilessly beat him up for disconnecting power to the house while his co-workers watched in awe.
Ogundele’s leg was allegedly broken in the process by the sergeant who had boasted that nothing was going to come out of the case when he was arrested after the case was reported at the Ikoyi Police Division.
The Head of Corporate Communications Department, Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC), Mr. Godwin Idemudia while confirming the development said the sergeant had been arrested and detained for assault.
Idemudia further revealed that the residence of the former IG owed a bill of N154,693,85, adding that because the police sergeant was armed, other officials of the electricity distribution company could only helplessly watch as Ogundele was being brutalised.
Idemudia said: “When Amikoko was taken to the station, he started boasting that nothing would come out of the case. We believe that nobody is above the law. The case should not be swept under the carpet. The Divisional Police Officer has assured us that justice would be served.”
However, the Police Public Relations Officer in Lagos State, ASP Olarinde Famous-Cole has debunked claims that Ogundele’s leg was broken during the scuffle saying it was mischievous of the electricity company to lay such claims.
