Mr. Olusesan Awe is a high-flying physiotherapist who has carved a niche for himself in Nigeria’s healthcare industry. He is the Founder, Head Physiotherapist and Chief Executive Officer of Physiofit Physiotherapy Hospital which is based in Lagos. Physiofit has the distinction of being the only physiotherapy outfit in Nigeria which is recognized as an hospital because of the rehabilitation home facilities which it possesses.
The hospital has been in existence for fifteen years. It now has two centres located at New Oko-Oba in the Fagba area of Agege and Ado – Badore Road, Ajah in Ibeju Lekki Local Government Area of Lagos State.
Olusesan was born on December 6, 1963. He is an indegene of Osun State. He attended Lisabi Grammar School, Abeokuta. He went on to study for a B.Sc Physiotherapy at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos graduating in 1999. He also did a Postgraduate Diploma in Hospital Management in the same institution in the year 2000.
Olusesan Awe was an intern at General Hospital Ikeja from August 1999 to July 2000. He also had a training stint at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.
Between July 2000 and April 2001, he worked as a Physiotherapist at Oak Medical and Physiotherapy, Lagos. He was under the compulsory National Youth Service when he served at the Yauri General Hospital, Yelwa Yauri, Kebbi State from May 2001 to April 2002.
He later worked as a staff of Gbagada General Hospital, Gbagada Lagos from June 2002 to May 2003 when he founded Physiofit Physiotherapy Hospital.
Mr. Olusesan Awe has attended many professional courses in Nigeria which have to do with various aspects of Physiotherapy. He has also attended related courses in Australia, Chicago, USA and Miami, USA.
He is a member of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy (NSP), the Nigerian Society for the Study of Pain (NSSP), the American Academy of Orthotists and Prosthetists (AAOP) and the World Stroke Organization (WSO).
In 2014, Awe took active part in the Ebola Campaign in the Fagba area of Iju, Lagos. On October 29, 2016, he was Chief Pioneer in the Stroke Awareness Campaign in Ajah, Lagos and on December 22 of the same year, he was an active partner in the Stroke Awareness Campaign in Ifako-Ijaiye, Lagos.
Mr. Awe who is married with children loves reading, swimming and social interaction as pastimes.
It is in recognition of his contribution to national development in the field of Physiotherapy that Mr. Olusesan Awe is deemed worthy to be conferred with the Development In Nigeria Merit Award which is part of the 2017 PSR National Awards.
