The pan -Yoruba socio-cultural group, Afenifere has demanded the immediate dismissal of the Minister of Defence, Mansur Dan -Ali (rtd) for justifying the killings perpetrated by Fulani herdsmen through his utterances.
Afenifere Calls For Immediate Sack Of Defence Minister
The group made the call in a communiqué it released at the end of its monthly meeting which was held at the residence of its leader, Chief Reuben Fasoranti in Akure and read by its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin.
Afenifere also called for the reorganization of the nation’s security architecture to reflect the diversity of the country, saying a situation where 16 out the 17 service chiefs in the country are from a section of the country demonstrated clannishness in dealing with security issues in a multi-ethnic society.
“Afenifere rejects cattle colonies as the concept is offensive, repugnant and an affront on the rights of non – Fulani communities across Nigeria as their lands would now be forcefully acquired and be subjected to an alien culture and rule in the name of cattle rearing,” Odumakin said.
He added that the killings and arsonist attacks now wear the garb of state approval given the loud silence of President Muhammadu Buhari over the dastardly acts. He called on thePresident to urgently address the developments which threaten the corporate existence of the nation.
Prominent Yoruba leaders present at the meeting were the former governors of Ondo, Ogun and Kwara states, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, Otunba Gbenga Daniel and Chief Cornelius Adebayo respectively.
Others in attendance were Pa Ayo Adebanjo, former secretary to the Government of the Federation, Chief Olu Falae, Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa, Senator Femi Okurounmu, Chief Supo Shonibare, Segun Adegoke, Dare Babarinsa and Prof. Banji Akintoye among others.
