The Federal Government has said that about 67 percent of the Nigerian population live below the poverty line.
Mrs. Maryam Uwais, the Special Advisor to the President on Social Protection stated this on Thursday while speaking at a Social Protection Practitioners and Academics Dialogue in Abuja.
Mrs. Uwais said other social issues currently plaguing the country include increased insecurity, high unemployment rates, gender inequality and poor literacy rates.
She added that social protection was a response and a key strategy that is expected to reduce poverty and other socio-economic vulnerabilities among the population. as well as encourage Government To Person payments digitalization and financial inclusion.
She revealed that the Federal Government has designed a four-point National Social Investment Programme (N-SIP), and Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) programme which will ensure the seamless transfer of N5,000 to the targeted poor and vulnerable households in the country.
