The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday detained the immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Babachir Lawal for alleged fraud to the tune of ₦223 million.
Lawal, who was dismissed by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2017 over allegations of diversion of funds meant for tackling the humanitarian crisis in north-easernt Nigeria is reported to have arrived the Abuja office of the anti –graft agency at about 11.oo a.m. and was detained for interrogation.
Acting Head of Media and Publicity of the EFCC, Mr. Samin Amaddin while confirming the development told journalists that the ex-SGF was cooperating with investigators as he had so far made useful statements.
