Yobe State Governor, Ibrahim Gaidam says the Nigerian military should be held responsible for last week’s attack on Dapchi town which resulted in the abduction of 110 school girls.
Gaidam made the allegation while receiving his Borno State counterpart, Kashim Shettima who paid him a sympathy visit over the weekend.
Governor Gaidam said the attack came barely a week after the military withdrew troops from the town, adding that if the soldiers had been on ground, the attack and subsequent abduction of the school girls would have be prevented.
He said a similar scenario played out in 2014 when members of the Boko Haram sect attacked the Buni Yadi school for boys, killing 29 of them.
“I blame the whole attack on Dapchi on the military and the defence headquarters who withdrew troops from Dapchi. The attack occurred barely a week after the military withdrew the soldiers from there.
“Before then, Dapchi had been peaceful, there had never been such incident. But just a week after they withdrew the troops, Boko Haram came to attack the town. Let me be quoted anywhere, the military must take blame for the attack on Dapchi,” Governor Gaidam said.
