In a bid to curb the lingering feud between the Senator representing Kano Central District in the National Assembly, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso and the Kano State governor, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the Senate on Thursday insisted that Senator Kwankwaso should visit Kano State to discharge his constituency responsibilities.
The Senate also directed its Committee on Police Affairs to immediately summon the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris to provide adequate security to Senator Kwankwaso to enable him visit his constituency in Kano State.
The directive, the Senate said is to further prevent any form of hindrance by the security agencies against any lawmaker who may wish to visit his or her constituency.
In his ruling, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki advised politicians to always resolve conflicting issues amongst themselves amicably in order to foster harmony, unity and national development.
“We must always try to resolve issues amicably and to also, always detect the kind of matters that will be brought to the floor of the Senate. It is not right that a Senator cannot visit his constituency,” Saraki said.
“The Committee on Police should summon the IGP and they must provide security to Senator Kwankwaso to enable him visit his constituency,” he added.
The Police had advised Kwankwaso to shelf his planned visit to the state on the grounds that it could provoke tension in the area which may probably escalate into a breakdown of law and order, especially after the recent clash between members of the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya groups in Kano.
Although the duo, who remain members of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) were formerly very close allies, they are now at loggerheads largely due to the struggle for supremacy about who controls the party’s structure in the state.
