Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has said he is yet to be informed about the planned visit of President Muhammadu Buhari to the state.
He also said the President’s visit would not resurrect the state’s chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) which he claimed was dead, adding that no amount of fasting and prayer by the members of the party would revive its fortunes.
Speaking on Thursday during the flag-off of the reconstruction of Egbelu Street and construction of link roads in East West and Rumuodara in Obio Akpor Local Government Area, Wike said the planned visit of President Buhari was not necessary as the state was currently not experiencing serious security challenges.
“I hear that they say the President is coming to our state. I have not been told the President is coming and why he is coming. He has the right to come to any state.
“Maybe the President is coming to make sure that he will improve the fortunes of the APC that is dead in Rivers State. Apart from Jesus Christ, we don’t know of anyone who has raised a dead thing. APC is a dead party in Rivers State. No matter how you pray and fast, it will never wake up,” Wike said.
“Let nobody bother him or herself that the President is coming for security reasons. We don’t have security challenges in the state, except when some criminals tried to disrupt the peace and they were checked. We resolved that challenge,” he added.
He charged the people of the state not to be bothered by the politics or otherwise of the visit because the state had never been associated with religious, ethnic or herdsmen killings.
He added since there was no state in the country where there were no armed robbery incidents or kidnappings, the President should endeavour to also visit all the other 35 states of the Federation.
