The Benue State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Fatai Owoseni says the Command remains committed to ensuring that the state’s Open Grazing Prohibition Law which was promulgated in November last year was fully enforced.
He stated this on Wednesday when he visited and provided free medical assistance to victims of herdsmen/farmers clashes in the state at the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps located at Abagena Agan in Makurdi, LGEA Primary School, Daudu and the UN Shelter also located in Daudu in Guma Local Government Area of the state.
Owoseni said: “We, the security agencies – Police, Navy, Army, Air Force and other sister security agencies – have taken notes of areas that the Fulani have come back, to see how we can tackle it and bring the situation under control.
“Your fear is when you return home, the herdsmen will come and attack you. But I can assure you that nothing like that will happen, because we have a team of trained mobile policemen that will provide you security.
He further denied claims by an inmate at one of the IDP camps that security agencies were not interested in enforcing the state’s grazing law, but had conspired and were aiding the gradual takeover of Benue land by herdsmen.
