Armed bandits on motor bikes over the weekend opened fire on residents of Janruwa village in Birnin Gwari Local Government Area of Kaduna State, killing 14 miners and leaving over 30 other persons with various degrees of injuries.
Reports say the bandits stormed the village, a mining settlement located a few kilometers from the Kaduna metropolis in their hundreds on motor bikes and attacked the miners unprovoked at about 12:00pm on Sunday.
The Kaduna State Commissioner of Police, Austin Iwar confirmed the attack on the community but could not provide details on the number of the injured and deceased persons whose corpses have been deposited at the Jibril Maigwari General Hospital mortuary.
