Two policemen on duty at a police station at Gegu village along the Lokoja – Abuja Expressway have been reportedly killed after gunmen invaded the station in the early hours of Tuesday.
Confirming the incident, the spokesman for the Kogi State Police Command, ASP William Aya said the gunmen also shot one of the suspects in the cell.
He added that the corpses of the slain policemen had been deposited at the morgue of the Federal Medical Centre, Lokoja, where the injured suspect is also receiving treatment.
According to locals who witnessed the attack, the gunmen numbering up to ten arrived the station at about 2:15am on motorcycles and immediately opened fire, killing the two policemen on duty and fatally injuring one of the suspects in the cell.
The gunmen also reportedly carted away AK-47 rifles kept at the station after ransacking the station in search of arms and ammunitions.
