A suspected notorious kidnap kingpin and armed robber, Godwin Onyebuchi popularly known as Papa G has been arrested by operatives of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) of the Imo State Command.
Onyebuchi, who has been on the wanted list of the police for a long time was nabbed on Saturday at his hideout at Solo Lodge Hostel located around the Federal Polytechnic, Nekede.
Reports say the suspect who was responsible for many kidnappings including that of a popular singer, Chinedu Nwadike and one Rev. Columba Okereke in August last year was arrested after, in an attempt to flee, jumped down from the three-storey hostel and broke one of his legs.
While receiving medical treatment at the police clinic at Amakaohia, Owerri, he was identified by some of his gang members and two of his kidnap victims.
Confirming the arrest, the Imo State Commissioner of Police, Chris Eze said the robust and aggressive onslaught against criminals and their hideouts in Imo and other neighbouring states was responsible for Onyebuchi’s arrest.
“The suspect has been on the wanted list of the Command. Acting on intelligence, we have to arrest him. He will be ready to answer for all his atrocities. As a command, we will continue to ensure that Imo people enjoy their sleep,” Eze added.
