Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom has once again charged security agencies to take urgent proactive measures to stop further killings in the state and other parts of the country.
Ortom’s call is coming on the heels of the reports of renewed armed herdsmen attacks and killings in several local government areas in Benue State, including Guma, Logo, Kwande, Agatu and Gwer West.
The most recent of such attacks took place last week when more than 10 persons lost their lives after herdsmen attacked a community in Gwer West Local Government Area.
The governor condemned the fresh attacks on unarmed and innocent citizens of the state and other parts of the country, describing them as inhuman, barbaric and totally unacceptable.
He further appealed to individuals, groups and communities to assist the law enforcement agencies with necessary information and other lawful support to enable them carry out their responsibility of protecting the lives and property of citizens by acting promptly on security reports and threats to peace.
While stressing that Benue State was not at war with any ethnic group, Gov. Ortom advised the people to refrain from making inciting statements or resort to attacks against any group, calling on them not to condone or encourage criminal acts as according to him, anyone found culpable would not be spared.
He commended the efforts of the security agencies in the state and solicited for more deployments in flashpoints in order to enhance their operation across the state and the nation in general.
