Former Abia State governor and chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Orji Uzo Kalu has told one of the presidential aspirants of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Sule Lamido to shelve his ambition as according to him, there was no vacancy in Aso Rock.
Kalu, who made the declaration in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital when he paid a visit to the state governor, Alhaji Muhammed Badaru Abubakar over the weekend said he was touring the nation to sensitize Nigerians on the need to give President Muhammadu Buhari a second term in office.
While calling on other aspirants to forget about contesting the presidency with Buhari, Kanu declared that he would not support any other candidate in the 2019 presidential polls other than President Buhari.
His words: “Although Alhaji Sule Lamido happens to be my friend and an aspirant for Nigeria’s president in the PDP, I told him I won’t vote for him against President Muhammad Buhari.”
Dr. Kalu also knocked former President Olusegun Obasanjo over the letter he wrote to Buhari advising him not to seek re-election, saying the former president lacked the moral right to decide who becomes what in Nigeria.
“People seem to have forgotten when former President Obasanjo was literally absent for about three years travelling all over the world when he was president and then nobody told him not to seek re-election.
“He does not have the moral right to decide for Nigerians who become president even though when he was president no one wrote letters advising him against seeking for re-election,” he added.
Kalu said Nigerians had the moral obligation to choose their leaders through the democratic process, advising them to go ahead and vote for Present Buhari as president while also voting for Muhammed Badaru as the governor of Jigawa State.
Kanu further maintained that voting for any other person other than President Buhari was giving an opportunity and another avenue for the continued sleazing of the country’s treasury by looters.
Responding, the Jigawa State governor expressed excitement over the visit by the former Abia governor, adding that Kanu’s choice to project the reason for the re-election of President Buhari was unprecedented.
Muhammed Badaru said although Buhari has constantly won elections in Jigawa, there was need to re-educate them to see reason on why they should give Buhari another chance to run for the president of the country.
