Governor Umaru Al-Makura of Nasarawa State says the state chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is not a serious opposition party, adding that the All Progressive Congress (APC) would put its house in order and work towards winning the 2019 elections.
Governor Al-Makura stated this over the weekend when the state party officials of the APC led by its chairman, Phillip Tatari Sheko paid him Sallah homage at the Government House in Lafia.
He said that the APC in Nasarawa would do all it could to ensure that it emerges victorious come 2019, adding, “As far as I’m concerned, there is no opposition in Nasarawa State.
“PDP is never a serious opposition in Nasarawa State as far as I’m concerned because PDP in Nasarawa State has never been serious in their activities. So any candidate that will emerge in APC primaries, we will give him necessary support to emerge the governor of state,” Al-Makura said.
Governor Al-Makura revealed that he would not sponsor any candidate in the forthcoming general elections, stressing that he would distance himself from anything that would cause crisis within the APC in the state.
He added: “I will not sponsor any person in the party because I’m trying to avoid crisis, but any candidate who picks the ticket will get my support.”
Earlier in his address, Sheko lauded the developmental strides of Governor Al-Makura, pledging that the party officials would continue to be loyal to the governor and his government.
